In episode eighteen, Susan’s mom visits, Bree and Lynette get into a fight, and Gabby and Carlos also have a few arguments. 

This episode wouldn’t pass the Bechdel test. 

  • There are four main characters that are girls 
  • The four girls are all neighbors and close friends, so they interact almost daily
  • In this episode, all of their conversations are about a male. 

Bree

  • Feminine characteristics: Soft-spoken, Loves children 
    • Bree babysits for Lynette as she is in a scramble to get somewhere. She also packs a care package for her son who is at a delinquent Bootcamp. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Defends own beliefs, Assertive, Forceful, Dominant, Aggressive, Ambitious 
    • Bree spanks one of Lynette’s children while babysitting them which causes an uproar in Lynette as she doesn’t believe in that. Bree is surprised to find out her son is homosexual, and she doesn’t approve. 

Susan

  • Feminine characteristics: Cheerful, Eager to soothe hurt feelings, Loves family
    • Susan is happy to see her mother as she visits them. She also tries to get her mother and her ex-boyfriend back together. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Willing to take a stand 
    • Susan tells her mother she can’t move in with her and tries to get her mother to go back to her boyfriend she claims shoved her. 

Lynette

  • Feminine characteristics: Loves children
    • Lynette refuses to hit her children despite their bad behavior. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Defends own beliefs, Assertive, Willing to take a stand, Ambitious 
    • Lynette gets angry at Bree when she finds out Bree spanked one of her children. 

Gabby

  • Feminine characteristics: Affectionate, Feminine, Soft-spoken, Childlike
    • Gabby becomes affectionate with her husband as well as her old gardener and lover, John. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Independent, Willing to take risks, Willing to take a stand 
    • Gabby decides she doesn’t want children and makes it very clear to her husband who wants kids. As Carlos is going to jail soon, he becomes adamant that she signs a postnup because she hid the settlement money from the hospital where his mother was poorly cared for.
