Examples of Masculine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Self-reliant: When coming downstairs and encountering Maggie, Mel and Harry for the first time since finding out she was resurrected from the dead at birth, she tells Maggie forcefully, “Stop looking at me like that, I’m not going to break.”
- Leadership ability/independence: With Harry’s encouragement, Macy is determined to continue to look into her past, and performs a summoning ritual to do so, bringing the necromancer who brought her back directly to the manor.
- Aggressive: Macy telekinetically slows down a witch’s heart, almost to death, because she has Maggie trapped in an enchantment that’s killing her. It’s only with Maggie’s interference that Macy is able to regain control of herself.
- Makes decisions easily: Macy cuts a deal with Dr. Wagner at the end of the episode after finding out Knansie brought her back from the dead with demon blood, effectively making her a half-demon like Parker. She wants Dr. Wagner to help her effectively remove the demon side from her before she can “go dark,” agreeing to help her with Parker in the process.
Examples of Feminine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Sympathetic/compassionate: Macy refuses to turn in Knansie, the necromancer to the Elders, but also refuses to kill Cyd, the witch after Knansie, and who threatened her and Maggie.
- Understanding: Macy feels better about now knowing the truth about her resurrection, and why her parents did what they did. Knansie told Marisol and Dexter that they could only live happily for two years, and then they would need to effectively separate. If Marisol ever laid her eyes on Macy again after that, she would die.
Conclusion: Macy’s findings about her “darkness” in this episode coincide with what she thought in earlier episodes: her aggression, a predominantly masculine trait, is primarily brought on by her demonic side, making it hard for her to control herself, particularly with the witch Cyd, as seen in this episode. It is clear that Macy is scared to lose that kind of emotional control over herself again, which is why she goes to Dr. Wagner for help. Despite this, Macy now has a clearer understanding of her parents’ decisions, wrapping up a large part of her uncertainty surrounding Dexter and Marisol. It will be interesting to see where Macy’s storyline goes from here, as she now knows the truth about herself.
