In this episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Christina Yang schedules her boyfriend Preston Burke’s surgeries and helps assist him in them. Throughout the episode, she encourages him and motivates him to do a difficult surgery.
In the beginning of the episode, Christina is seen writing on Burke’s OR whiteboard schedule, which is a job usually done by residents or Burke himself, not an intern. She is also seen bossing around residents, who are up than her since she is only a resident. In this scene, she is depicting the masculine traits of ambition, assertiveness, and leadership ability. Later in the episode, she erases Dr. Bailey’s name from the board, which she is not allowed to do. This willingness to take risks is a masculine trait. Finally, by trying to help and protect Burke from his secret hand tremor getting out, she is showing compassion which is a feminine trait.
In class, we recently discussed active fans, which are fans who make content to extend the content they see. If fans make fanart or tweet about this show while they watch it, that would be an example of them being active fans.
