Not Following Stereotypes

Ian and Mickey are in prison and Ian might be getting out, but he does not want to lose his relationship with Mickey so he asks some other prisoners if they have advice. They give him some advice as to how to handle it, but Ian still is not sure. I think that men do not go to other men for relationship advice because they have this tough exterior that they have to put on. This is also not stereotypical because Ian and Mickey are gay and so are the prisoners he is getting advice from.

Going along with how Ian is trying to make this relationship work, he tells Mickey that he wants to continue the relationship if he gets out of prison. Ian is being very open with Mickey and lets him know how he feels about the situation in the end. Men usually do not express their feelings in relationships, they tend to play hard to get and act like they do not care either way.

Debbie is a welder and when she goes to work one day there is a guy talking about how the union gets more money and benefits than those not in the union. She then sits all of her coworkers down to tell them that they have to go on strike in order to get equal rights. Men would never take orders from a woman especially one who is a lot younger than them. They do end up going on strike and Debbie leads it.

Mavard and V take Liam to a baseball game and Kevin does not like how good-looking Mavard is. He then tells V not to go along, but she says that it is no big deal. Kevin is getting jealous and that is not a quality a man typically has, again they tend to have this hard to get attitude, but in this case, Kevin is clearly upset at the situation.

In the same way that Ian got advice, Mickey also got advice from different prisoners on what to do about the situation. Mickey and Ian are both pretty masculine, but Mickey is more masculine than Ian, so this is even more unstereotypical that he would be asking for advice and trying to make the relationship work.

Following Stereotype

Liam and Mavard are talking about how to interact with a cop. Mavard tells Liam to always compliment the cop such as using the word sir or complimenting the tie of the officer. This is stereotypical because when you think of cops you think of men, usually, a female cop does not come to mind, so the fact that he was describing a male cop makes sense.

Carl wants to impress Anne so he tells her he can help her with her family business. It is very common for a guy to try to do things for a girl to impress her especially if it is for or with her family.

Bechdel Test

There was one example and that is when V and Amy are talking at the Alibi, but they are not talking about men, so it would pass, but there are men in the room staring at them so it might fail. I am not sure.
