Season 2 Episode 8

Summary:

Ilana is babysitting for a rich kid in New York City, and tries to loosen him up a little bit. While she’s working, she goes online and finds out Abbi’s boss’ prior occupation. Abbi learns this, and uses the information against him.

Masculine Traits:

  • Forceful: Abbi blackmails her boss, Tre, to give her a promotion to keep his secret safe. While this is not the most morally sound action, it did work.
  • Self-Sufficient: Abbi takes clothes she was supposed to donate and sells them to help pay for the broken mirror. She figures that she could use the money more than someone needed new clothes.

Femimine Traits:

  • Childlike: When teaching a fitness class, Abbi throws a weight at a mirror, which causes it to shatter on the floor. It was her first class that she taught and she was very cheerful about it. She was so cheerful and relaxed to the point where she threw a weight by accident and then she was scrambling to pay for a new mirror.
  • Loves children: Ilana tries to teach the kid she is babysitting lessons throughout their time together. She was teaching him slang, trends, and they both had a great time. This showed a new side of Ilana that the audience hasn’t seen yet.

Sex Role Perspective:

This episode has a better balance of masculine and feminine traits. As we’ve learned in class, any gender can have any traits despite being categorized under a specific sex. This was a very realistic depiction of how women can still like kids, but not want their own or even how sometimes people get a little too crazy when they learn new information.
