In season 1 Episode 6 of The Office, found on Peacock, Katie the handbag girl is introduced into the workplace. It is extremely evident that every man in the office is attracted to her, including Michael, and this is proven within the first 3 minutes. After telling Pam to kick her out because there is no solicitation allowed in the office, he realizes how beautiful she is, and comes out to her saying, “Wow, look at you! You are like the new and improved Pam!” As I mentioned in my previous post, Michael thinks that Pam is the most attractive in the office. This again, like my last post, alludes to Gaze Theory. Throughout the episode, Michael continually hits on Katie, making her uncomfortable because he has been objectifying her beauty. Kevin objectifies her too, telling Pam that Katie is prettier than her too. Dwight also made a checklist of his perfect woman, saying “The purse girl hits everything on my checklist. Creamy skin, straight teeth, curly hair, amazing breasts…” Even Roy, who is engaged makes comments to Jim about Katie saying, “Why don’t you get on that? Are you gay?” They then continued to discuss Jim’s type. Roy then goes ahead and mentions that he would be all over her if he was not engaged to Pam. All in all, I think that this episode in particular was a very good choice for this project.
