The FOX television series New Girl, specifically season 7, episode 8 titled Engram Pattersky

Gender representation:

  • Nick and Jess are moving out of the loft because someone bought the building they have lived in for years. Jess invites all the roommates over to talk about the next step for her and Nick and to reminisce about all the times they had in the apartment. All of them except for Jess find that it isn’t such a big deal since they have already moved out and have families. They all agree to play along with Jess since Nick told them to because he doesn’t want to rent the moving truck for another day. Jess brings out a bunch of items that have had significant sentimental value from previous years to make them really start to miss the place. They end up really connecting and talking about some of the best times they had in the loft. Since Jess was the only one that was really sad about the move this can be related to female stereotypical traits that include sensitivity and affection.

The Bechdel Test: Does pass

  1. There are women that are named
  2. They do talk to each other
  3. They talk to each other about something other than men
