This love song by Gabby Barrett focuses on the great relationship the female artist is in with a boy. Throughout the song, there are multiple examples of the way the male treats her with respect and is seen as a great guy. Due to the fact that the artist is sharing all the great qualities of the male, there aren’t many feminine stereotypes within the lyrics.

Feminine Stereotypes

  • “You’d say he hung the moon, I’d say he hung the galaxy”
    • This lyric uses a metaphor to describe the emotions the female is experiencing. This can be seen as a metaphor because of the way she views the guy she likes versus how others see him.

Masculine Stereotypes

  • “He’s a phone call to his parents, He’s a Bible by the bed”
    • A common stereotype that is used often is the idea that if you find a “good guy” he shows good qualities by being close with his family or having a good faith relationship.
  • “He’s solid and he’s steady”
    • This lyric displays the idea that the male is what could be seen as “confident”. If a guy is seen and solid and steady it could be referring to the idea that he is self-confident, knows who he is, and doesn’t let small things bother him.

This song contains multiple positive stereotypes of how both a man and a woman would feel while being in a relationship. The song title, “The Good Ones” foreshadows the good qualities she describes within her partner.
