Gender Roles in Mamma Mia

The media I will be analyzing is the film: Mamma Mia. In this post I will be outlining the stereotypical gender roles given to us by the sex role perspective portrayed in the film by the main characters: Donna and Sophie.

Donna and Sophie:

• Donna is a great example of gender role reversal. 
• She is very independent 
  • Runs her own business
  • Fixes plumbing and broken parts of their hotel on her own 
  • Is a single mother 
• Uses more harsh language 

 

Sophie:

• Very cheerful 
• Soft spoken 
• Childlike 
• Gentle
• Does not use harsh language 
• Warm
• Tender
• Feminine
