- Women seen walking
- Men skateboarding (risk-takers)
- Women doing yoga
- Men investing in stock market
In this AARP commercial we see the typical men and women stereotypes being portrayed. First we open to a scene of two females walking down the road together which you may think is not super feminine however it then jumps to a scene of two men skateboarding. The gender stereotype this is following is that women tend to take less risk like going on walks when they want to hang out with their friends. While men tend to go to skateparks and jump off things and are more dangerous and take more of those risk. Next we see two women doing yoga while two men are seen buying and selling stocks. This plays into the idea that women are more likely to be stay at home parents and go to exercise classes during the day such as yoga. This is showing how men tend to go to work and that work tends to be in business. There are a lot of gender stereotypes in this commercial that the creators may not have even seen when they made it. Also in this commercial all the females both young and old are thin and tall which is the “ideal” shape for the female body.
