The second female artist I will be looking at is Adele. She is known for her Pop and R&B style music. Her number one song on Spotify is Someone Like You.
In the music video, Adele is seen slowly walking down the sidewalk. Throughout the entire music video she carries a look of heartbreak and deep sadness. Her strong emotions are not only heard in her voice but also seen in her body language and actions. She looks out over a river as she thinks back on her relationship, and she is seen staring into a mirror at herself as a man walks away from her in the background.
Her emotion can truly be felt when she looks into the camera as she sings,
“Don’t forget me, I beg.”
The feminine stereotype that females are more emotional than males is seen and reinforced in the entire music video. Adele is seen to be sad over the breakup of her relationship, while the man just casually walks away from her without showing any emotion. Women showing greater emotions than men is one of the more well-known gender stereotypes.
