Licensed Withdrawal/Modern Shift
- There are only four characters on the poster who are shown to be looking directly at the viewer. Three of the four are men, and the fourth character is Nakia. There seems to be no favor towards showing women in licensed withdrawal over men, as a lot of the male characters are shown looking away as well.
Relative Size
- Besides T’Challa, the main character, there is a balance of size between the men and women on the poster. It is interesting to see how the poster divides the women and men onto separate sides, though. I think that the women are portrayed with equal importance to the men in the poster, but both genders are distinguished as separate.
Function Ranking
- Two of the women on the poster, Okoye and Shuri, are shown with weapons and fighting clothes along with the men on the poster. While T’Challa’s mother, Ramonda, is not given a weapon, she is portrayed in a headdress that identifies her position of power as the queen of Wakanda. No other characters on the poster, even the men, are shown in the same clothing as her.
The Family
- Shuri, T’Challa, and Ramonda are family, but the poster does not identify the characters as such. Ramonda is not portrayed as motherly on the poster, despite that being a important element of her character.
