The ninth female artist I will be looking at is Demi Lovato. She is known for her Indie Pop and Contemporary R&B music. Her number one song on Spotify is Sorry Not Sorry.

Stereotypes

This music video shows Demi Lovato hosting a party at her house with all of her friends. Most of the people, both men and women, are wearing swimsuits. The women have especially revealing swimsuits on and the camera tends to zoom in on the women more often than the men. This showing of their bodies follows the gender stereotype of objectifying women.

Later on in the music video, Demi Lovato can be seen wearing a low cut swimsuit in pool of bubbles. Along with a couple girls on the sides, Demi can be seen covering herself and rubbing bubbles on her body.

Counter Stereotypes

Typically in music videos when there is a non heterosexual kissing scene, it consists of two females since this is considered “hot” to male viewers. However, this music video shows the opposite. It shows multiple close-ups of two men kissing. The decision to put in these close-ups goes along with Demi Lovato’s desire to advocate for LGBTQ.
