In One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” music video they rarely go against male stereotypes. They play the role of people training to be astronauts. They play into this male stereotype of men being more ambitious and having higher status jobs. Additionally, most of the background people you see helping them along the way are also males. Each boy also spends the majority of the video making eye contact with the camera and being active throughout the video. The camera is also shooting up toward the boys which makes them appear larger and makes them take up more space. As for when they break stereotypes, at the very end of the video you can see some women working in the background. However, this also plays into the stereotype that women play supporting roles in their lines of work. As for gaze theory there is no elements of that present in this video. This was made with a female audience in mind and completely lacks the aspects covered under gaze theory.
