The 16th song I will be analyzing is “History” off of the album Made in the A.M. This song was the last song One Direction released and is a dedication to their fans. It is reflecting on the relationship One Direction had with their fans and the boys encouraging fans that it’s not over yet. Another interpretation of this song could be the members singing to each other about the memories they have created as a band and hoping more will be created in the future.
Evaluating Masculinity
In this song, One Direction is very persistent about trying to keep this whole thing going. However, with Zayn leaving the year prior, the group itself was starting to fall apart. This song is conveying a sense of commitment, but also desperation, to try and keep the group together.
“So don’t let it go, we can make some more
We can live forever”
This is an example of One Direction being a little forceful about what they want. Not forceful in a mean way like in “Why Don’t We Go There,” but forceful in a desperate, emotional way.
Evaluating Femininity
There isn’t that much to say here about femininity in the song itself. However, as a former One Direction fan, the feelings felt in this song were felt by every single fan I have come across.
