The 14th song I will be looking at is “Loved You First” off of the Take Me Home album. In this song, the guy is upset that he was not picked by the girl.

Evaluating Masculinity

In this song, the guy is singing to himself as opposed to singing to the girl about his feelings. I think this is important to point out because while the guy here knows what he wants, he isn’t being assertive.

“That’s what hurts the most
Girl, I came so close
But now you’ll never know
Baby, I loved you first”

In this lyric, we can see that the guy has no intentions of communicating how he is feeling towards the girl because she is already taken. He wants to be this emotionally vulnerable guy with her, but he can’t anymore.

Evaluating Femininity

While we don’t get a females perspective on the situation or a description of her, I think we can assume that she is someone that is easy to fall for. She has this guy who is saying he wants to be with her AND a boyfriend. As far as what characteristics made these guys fall for her, we don’t really know.
