For this entry I am analyzing the music video for “Nice To Meet Ya” by Niall Horan.

Masculine Stereotypes: While Niall is singing he is walking along the street looking at the women he passes. When he is not looking over at a girl he is singing directly into the camera. He holds himself in a very confident manner throughout the video whether it is when he is walking down the street, being fitted for a suit, or out for drinks with his friends. He is dressed stereotypically masculine throughout the video and is also seen going to/in a bar drinking with his guy friends.

Feminine stereotypes: At the beginning of the video a woman is leaving Niall’s house it appears to be after spending the night. The women throughout the entire video avoid looking at the camera. When driving away the woman lightly touches her hair while looking down at herself demonstrating feminine touch and licensed withdrawal. Throughout the video the women are wearing clothing that is more revealing than what their male counterparts are wearing. The only bartender seen in the bar is a woman there to serve the mostly male patrons. The main woman leaves her number for Niall after what appears to be a simple hello.

Gaze theory: While this video is not overtly sexual there are still some aspects of gaze theory. It is apparent that the women in the video are there for male enjoyment; this leads to the “minor” sexualization and objectification seen in this video.
