The advertisement celebrating Pokémon’s 20 years of success presents children around the world overcoming and succeeding in obstacles that relate to their field of interest. The first child was in a crowd of people who were chanting and running. The child looks ahead and says “I can do that” as a little boy runs far to a point where it was on the news. In another part of the World a little girl sees the boy on the news and repeats “I can do that”. The same cuts to her defeating a line of what the audience can assume are well skilled players in the game of chess and wins. A young man sees a girl win at chess and then chanted to his football team “we can do this” before a big game. The young man’s face presents itself on the side of a building as another young man holding a Pokémon ball dressed as a character from the cartoon, Pokémon, sees the building and says “I can do that” then walks into a Pokémon battle arena to battle another competitor in the game of Pokémon. The battle was presented on a television belonging to a father and son. The father leans towards his son and says, “you can do that”. The advertisement was quick and entertaining, but I did notice the lack of female activity in this ad. All the boys in the advertisement are in physical active sports while the one girl presented in the ad played competitive chess. Not very physically challenging but more of a mental challenge. Over all the ad was creative and playful but most likely aimed for male audiences because of the activities presented in the ad and the number of men compared to females.
