- Bechdel test– whether this episode of BoJack Horseman passes or fails and why.
- Are there at least TWO women in the episode?
- Sarah Lynn (youngest orphan name in Horsin’ Around)
- Princess Carolyn
- Diane Nguyen
- Sabrina (Horsin’ Around)
- Do any of the women talk to each other at ALL?
- Nope!
- Do they talk about something other than men?
- N/A
- Are there at least TWO women in the episode?
This episode obviously FAILS the Bechdel test. Nowhere in the episode can you find two women talking to each other at all; there is a scene at the bar with multiple women talking but they are nameless, thus not counting according to Bechdel.
- Something from text or class material that ties into the episode
- BoJack seems to display instrumental traits like assertiveness when he talks to the penguin, but at the same time goes back on his word in many instances. When he told the penguin that he would have pages done for him the next time they met (a week), he decided to drink and watch tv instead.
- Other themes noticed
- The first scene of the entire series is of BoJack washing the dishes, which conflicts with traditional sex roles.
- Admitted that he wants everyone in the world to like him.
- It seems like BoJack has issues with commitment of any kind– whether it is with ordinary tasks or even relationships like the one he had with Princess Carolyn.
