Bechdel Test: Pass or Fail?

  • Are there at least TWO women?
    • Diane
    • Princess Carolyn

Why did it Pass/Fail? 

  • This episode unfortunately fails the Bechdel test. Not only was there no conversation between any two women, but there was also barely any female conversation at ALL that wasn’t related to a man. 

 

Other themes noticed:

  • Princess Carolyn talked a lot in this episode about her relationship troubles; in other words, she talked a lot about JUST a man. Seems to be a common theme in non-Bechdel-passing media.
  • Diane was expressing somewhat masculine traits in this episode such as assertiveness in telling her fiancé that she wanted to get out of LA. In the real world, this case scenario would be a really hard thing to bring up and to talk about, especially if it is with your husband. However, Diane seemed to effortlessly bring it up which I thought was notable. 
  • They had a female band singing at the end of the episode instead of their normal outro song!
