The next Justin Bieber song I will be analyzing is “That Should Be Me” from his My World 2.0 album which was released in 2010. This song provides examples of stereotypical masculine and feminine traits. The theory I will be using to analyze this song is the sex-role perspective theory.

The lyrics provided show that Bieber is being analytical and questioning their relationship and the relationship the girl is in now. Bieber is asking if the new guy in her life loves her the way that can, analyzing which relationship is the better relationship. This goes along with the idea of the masculine trait, competitiveness. Bieber is talking about everything that the girl is doing now should be with him, not her new boyfriend. Since he is competitive, he is asking if his love is as strong as Bieber’s because he believes he should be the one who wins the girl in the end. He is saying everything that they would be doing if the girl would have stayed with him.

These lyrics show that the woman is giving away under pressure or yielding. She is yielding away from being broken-hearted again by Bieber and gave up and decided to go into a different relationship. She is yielding away from the feelings she may have had for BIebr and going to a different individual. Secondly, Bieber is saying how he sees her at the movies with her new significant other. This shows that she is affectionate towards the person, even though this is not towards Bieber himself.
