Intro: I wanted to take a moment to introduce this project and share my goal. VENOM comes from a viral trend on Tik Tok. When written in a specific font, it looks like “WOMEN” upside down, a symbol of empowerment for women. I named this project after that particular movement because at the time the project is set in (80’s) women were still pushing for female empowerment. I wanted to see just how women were portrayed in a monumental setting, like music, in this time period.
Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle”, takes on the stereotypical male rocker persona. What exactly is the rocker persona, you ask? Have you ever heard the saying “I live the rock n roll lifestyle? It means that you did crazy things like do drugs, drink ample amounts of alcohol, and have lots of women in your life. Welcome to the Jungle gives us that hard rock lifestyle. Examples in the lyrics include “you’re a very sexy girl, it’s very hard to please…”, “I wanna hear you scream”, and “watch it bring you to shun-n-n-n-n knees”. These lyrics take on a very sexual, forceful male rock perspective. The woman plays a soft, and sexual role within the song and in the music video.
