Song: “Lush Life” (click here for lyrics)

Artist: Zara Larsson

Overall Message:

〉This song is mainly about wanting to have as much fun as possible on her own and not caring what anyone thinks.

Analyzing the Lyrics:

Stereotypical Feminine Traits

  • Demanding: “It was a crush but I couldn’t, couldn’t get enough”
    • These lyrics are describing how she had a crush but it wasn’t enough for her. She needed something more from them but that didn’t happen, so she she moved on. This stereotypical trait basically shows that women constantly need something more, such as attention or a better guy. Some people tend to think that women are never fully satisfied.
  • Crazy: “Now, I might’ve went and said too much”
    • This phrase is saying that she must have done something that she is regretting. Based on the song, it was either from partying too much or something she said to her crush. Either way, it is very stereotypical to say that women are crazy when this happens because it happens to everyone. When women do something that they regret, some people are so quick to judge them and say that they are crazy.

Counterstereotypical Feminine Traits

  • Independent: “I’m just better without them cuffs”
    • I think what she is saying here is that she has more fun on her own than with anyone else. She doesn’t like to be tied down because she wants to do her own thing no matter what anyone says. She doesn’t have to depend on anyone to bring her happiness.
