This 2019 issue of ESPN magazine shows professional NFL player, DeAndre Hopkins and his mother, hand in hand. Looking through a sex role lens, this image has a few aspects that defy the more stereotypical representations that are commonly associated with a masculine figure.

- In this image, Hopkins looks to be very comforting, understanding, warm, and sympathetic towards his mother. These family-oriented qualities are much more frequently identified with women rather than men. By embracing his mother with a hug and holding her hand, Hopkins is playing a caring and affectionate role; therefore, he is going against the social norm that men are not supposed to show emotion or feeling.
