Season 2 Episode 6

Summary:

Abbi and Ilana get invited to a dog wedding and the night before, they fall down a hole on the internet. They decide to leave their phones at home to be present for the dog wedding. They get lost on their way to the wedding, and as normal, chaos ensues.

 

Masculine Traits:

  • Athletic:
    • Ilana and Abbi decided to rollerblade to the dog wedding to really enjoy life and get a brisk workout in. It would have been easier to take a cab, uber, the train, or really any other mode of transportation.
    • Abbi starts skating too fast and falls into a ditch. She lands too fast and sprains her ankle, so she can’t get out. Men in media tend to be seen as more athletic or have an increased amount of injuries related to athletics.
  • Self-reliant:
    • Abbi and Ilana can’t find the dog wedding without their phones, but decide to find it themselves and be present. In an age of technology, everyone is so dependent on their device however; they embrace getting lost and try their best to find it.
    • Ilana finds the dog wedding and pulls out a piece of Abbi’s clothing. She sees a hound and realizes that the dog has a strong sense of smell. She uses the dog to get Abbi safe and medical attention for her ankle.
  • Strong personality: They try to pick up guys at a park from afar and scream a discreet phrase to grab their attention. It didn’t work, but they tried for a good period of time.

 

Feminine Traits:

  • Sensitive to others’ needs: Ilana has an emergency kit of snacks and things to keep Abbi busy, so she gives it to her while Ilana tries to find help. She knew Abbi would be losing her mind without her phone sitting alone in a ditch, and she wanted to help her out.

 

Sex role perspective:

This episode shows how women can be independent and have faith in themselves. The setting is outside in a park, which is not traditionally where women are seen in television. The episode rejects several feminine stereotypes and embraces what being a woman is in our modern world.
