This ad is for Tampax Tampons with Amy Schumer discussing tampon sizes.
Sex Role Perspective
The ad takes place in a public bathroom where Amy asks another woman if she has a tampon. This in and of itself is a bit stereotypical for females. However, the ad focuses on informing Amy and the audience that there are more than one size tampons depending on your flow. The ad is more educational than stereotypical. With the few stereotypes it has, it plays into the them in a positive way. The ad resists female stereotypes of being over sexualized, skinny, extremely gorgeous with not flaws. Instead, the ad includes women with a body one would consider an average size for women in the U.S. They are dressed in normal work clothes, not skimpy outfits.
Gaze Theory
The ad does not really lean towards the male gaze, as the women are just standing in a bathroom talking about tampons. They are not over sexualized or objectified in any way.
