The Fox television series New Girl, specifically Season 3, Episode 1 titled All In

Gender representation:

  • This episode is about how the characters Jess and Nick start to date. They are standing in the hallway in front of their door struggling to enter the loft they live in because they are worried about what will happen next in the relationship since they already live together. When Schmidt hears them he says, “I’m having a major life crisis, and you guys are, what? Just driving around, French-kissing each other like a couple of Dutch hookers”. This describes and plays along with Schmidt sexualizing conversations and constantly bringing women into topics.
  • There weren’t many representations of women in this episode, but Schmidt again brings women into the topic of conversation that involves his thoughts on his situation of juggling two girls at the same time. When speaking with Winston (fellow roommate) he describes his relationship with Cece as being so physical that it’s unhealthy. Again, Schmidt’s character playing into the physical touch of a relationship while explaining the benefits of that specific dynamic of two people.

The Bechdel Test: Does not pass

  2. They do not talk to each other
