The FOX television series New Girl, specifically season 5, episode 10 titled Goosebumps Walkaway

Gender representation:

  • In the episode, Jess is back from jury duty and spends most of her time together with Reagan before she leaves the loft for good. When trying to find a man that was on jury duty with her Jess and Reagan drive to a park titled Palisades Lawn Bowling Club and see the man that could help with finding the guy Jess had a crush on during her time in court. They can’t enter after seeing the man because there is a guy that motions to a sign that says, “men only, no exceptions”. Jess proceeds to say the year implying how strange the sign is for the two.
  • Lastly, at the end of the episode Nick and Jess are in her room talking saying they have missed each other since her being gone. Jess says, “God, your nose hairs have totally gone bananas. I’m going to get my scissors”. This relates to the stereotype of women being empathetic, nurturing, and helpful since she is willing to take care of Nick.

The Bechdel Test: Does pass

  1. There are women that are named
  2. They do talk to each other
  3. They do talk about things other than men
