The song “Cold As You” by Luke Combs portrays the story about what seems to be what boys/ men do after a difficult or bad breakup. There are a few masculine stereotypes in the song but it was difficult for me to find a clear feminine stereotype besides the overall idea that the female broke the male’s heart and “left him in the dust”.

Masculine Stereotypes
- “Of this broke heart fool on an old bar stool, Drinkin’ beer almost as cold as you”
- These specific lyrics express the sadness and even annoyance of the male that he was sad over a “cold” female. These lyrics go against female stereotypes of having warm emotions and instead focus on the negative emotions the male is going through because of the female.
- “ When guys like me lose girls like you, That’s where we run to”
- Like mentioned before, the story that this song tells is where guys go after a breakup. The song talks about guys going to an old bar to dance and drink. Another thing to point out in this specific lyric is the written stereotype “guys like me” and “girls like you”. After listening to the song and reading the lyrics, listeners can most likely come up with their own assumptions on what exactly the artist means by that lyric.
The song does contain other, less predominant stereotypes such as, “A picture of you on a dartboard”. This picture is often seen in movies and has a negative connotation that goes along with it. This, along with other descriptions in the lyrics portray the reinforcement of stereotypes within the song by Luke Combs.
