This song actually relates to One Direction as a band and the fact that they’ll “come back” for their real-life girlfriends. Since the band is so busy going on tours and meeting new, attractive faces everywhere, this song is dedicated to their current girlfriends because of their undying loyalty. A job like this can be mentally and physically exhausting, being on the road all the time, so this is a reminder for their loved ones at home that they are always on their mind. The lyrics,

“Whenever I close my eyes, I picture you there
I’m looking out at the crowd, you’re everywhere
I’m watching you from the stage, yeah
Your smile is on every face now
But every time you wake up, you’re hearing me say
Goodbye”
refers to the fact that the band is on the other side of the world as their significant other, so when she wakes up, he has to go to bed. The boys miss their girlfriends very much since they see their girlfriend when they close their eyes and see her face plastered on every girl in the audience.

“Back For You” sort of has this subject position idea attached to it because of the fact that if you didn’t know the context of the song, it could be argued that the boys are referring to “you” as the listener of the song. I’m sure many girls listening to their music wish that it would be about them as a fan!

There aren’t really any references to Sex Role Theory in this song because it is talking about true love and has no superficial, stereotypical, or objective meaning behind it. If anything, each of the boys are hoping that their loved one will stay loyal to them and not forget that they exist.
