The song “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes is the first song I will be analyzed using the Sex-Role Perspective theory. The overall message and storyline of the song are about how the male is treating/ spoiling one specific female with gifts or taking her on dates. “Fancy Like” seems to be a romantic love song with the way the artist talks about one girl and the time they spend together.

Feminine Stereotypes
- “Can’t keep her off me”
- Implying that the female is attracted to the male and is flirtatious.
- “She’s super fine, double-wide, slow dancin’”
- Lyrics are specifically commenting on a female physical figure and features that are found to be attractive.
Masculine Stereotypes
- “Two straws, one check, girl, I got you”
- Males are “expected” to pay on dates
Throughout the song’s lyrics, it was much easier to find examples of feminine stereotypes than males. An occurring theme in this song is how the male artist is treating the female like taking her on dates, buying her things, or saying how “low maintenance” she is, which he is thankful for. The presence of the Sex-Role Perspective theory is pretty noticeable in this song with the way the male artist speaks about a female within the lyrics.
