The song “Til You Can’t” by Cody Johnson is seen as a very deep and meaningful song. The song sends a message about all the things in life that people might put off or think they have time to wait for and put off. Since this song is written and sung by a male artist there aren’t many female stereotypes within the lyrics.

Feminine Stereotypes
- “So take that phone call from your momma and just talk away”
- This lyric can be seen as a feminine stereotype due to the fact that it’s a common thought that mothers/females can just talk forever on phone calls and just in general. This lyric implies that I thought it might be a long phone call to still answer those calls from your mom.
Masculine Stereotypes
- “You’ll do some largemouth fishing another time, You just got too much on your plate to bait and cast a line”
- These lyrics can be seen as a masculine stereotype in the fact that what they do for fun or to spend time together is going fishing. Usually, things such as hunting and fishing are seen as more masculine. This lyric can also go against because it is implying that the male doesn’t want to go fishing and wants to take a raincheck.
- “You can keep putting off forever with that girl whose heart you hold…You can always put a diamond on her hand”
- Another example of a common masculine stereotype is that the male has to propose to the female. In addition to this, men are usually pressured to find a girl and propose sooner rather than later.
- “There’s a box of greasy parts sitting in the trunk of that ’65, Still waiting on you and your granddad to bring it back to life”
- Like the first example of lyrics, this one also connects to masculine stereotypes in the sense that all men know how to and actually like working/ fixing old cars. Another stereotype in this lyric is the fact that a “granddad” or just someone older would want to fix up an old truck with their family member.
This song definitely has multiple masculine stereotypes within its lyrics because it highlights and emphasizes traits like hunting, fishing, and fixing up things. Though it is a very sweet song it contains common stereotypes.
