My 15th portfolio post will be on the song, “Loved You First”, by One Direction. This song is about a guy saying how much he has loved this girl from the start and how he is the best man for her. This shows how masculine characteristics are stereotypically assertive and forceful. The man shows how he is willing to compete for her heart, which is a masculine trait. However, the man does show some characteristics that are typically feminine when he expresses how hurt he is to see the girl with another man. He shows some soft, affectionate, and tender traits throughout the song. One of the first sets of lyrics I find to be important are:

I never understood, what love was really like,

But I felt it for the first time looking in your eyes

But now when I see you with him

My whole world falls apart

These lyrics show the emotional and sympathetic side that you do not usually see with men in media. Men are more often portrayed to not show their emotions, while women are more often shown falling apart over a man who broke their heart. However, this man expresses throughout the song how hurt he is that he is not the man that is showing her love. Overall, this song shows some not so stereotypical gender and sex roles.
