OVERVIEW
Eric Church is a well-known country singer. In his song Record Year released in 2015. He is sending the message that he went through a breakup, but instead of drinking away his feelings he is having a “record year”. Pointing at the fact that because of the breakup he is where he is now. Using the Sex-Role Theory in the lyrics you can see that instead of being aggressive toward the woman that broke his heart he is thanking her in this song.

“But love’s got a funny way of keepin’ score” This lyric is pointing at how he is understanding how the love the girl gave him and the heartbreak he got is a reason for his record year.
Eager to soothe hurt feelings
“And your leavin’ lit up my scoreboard” soothing his own feelings by saying that he is doing better because of what happened. I take this as a thank you to her.
“I’m either gonna get over you, Or I’m gonna blow out my ear” Is another example of wanting to soothe hurt feelings. What he is saying is that he either needs to get over her or blast music until he can’t anymore. Choose a short-term pain and get over her or sit there in pity.
