Within the song, Like a Lady, by Lady A, there are many feminine stereotypes that can be found within the lyrics. These stereotypes lead to the belief that women are supposed to act and dress in a specific way as specified by society. Within the song, there were only feminine stereotypes that I could find.
Feminine stereotypes/ counter stereotypes:
Boy, I’m not the kind of girl to go and fight for all your attention
- This is a counter stereotype because typically men are supposed to go after the girl and seek their attention. Whereas this is saying the girl must chase the guy.
Leave the dress at home ’cause it makes me too polite / No more waiting by the phone / Sippin’ on tequila with my Levi’s on / Leave the heels at home, ’cause they never do me right
- These lyrics are about not dressing up or wearing clothes that society expects you to wear. Such as girls always having to look their best, or dressing up even when they don’t have to.
Might change my hair, and change my mind
- These lyrics go along with the idea that women change their minds very often. Because they are always thinking and changing what they are wearing or doing. Typically because they feel the need to, due to society’s standards.
