Throughout the song, Famous Friends by Kane Brown there are many feminine and masculine stereotypes. These stereotypes can be identified using the Sex-Role Theory. These stereotypes are found within today’s society, by the need men and women have to live up to the expectations that get put on them through our childhood and careers. Such as needing to be remembered for things you’ve accomplished and fulfilling those expectations.

Masculine Stereotypes:

My buddy Brandon holds a record / For single-season touchdown throws

  • Men in our society have been stereotyped as being the best at something. Such as being the quarterback or being good at sports. This has been ingrained in men at a young age. They need to make others proud and do something worth remembering.

My buddy Jason, he’s the sheriff / He’ll flash his lights but let me go

  • Similarly, this lyric shows that men have to have a reliable job. And need to provide for their families.

Feminine Stereotypes:

My girl Megan, she’s been Teacher of the Year / I swear for five years in a row

  • Within these lyrics, it has been stereotyped that women are supposed to be teachers because they are more loving and caring and are “supposed” to take care of kids and be motherly.
