As seen in Luke Bryan’s song lyrics “Waves,” there are many different verses that relate to the stereotypes of men and women and what it means to be a male or female.
Within the lyrics,
It’s like the sun went down just to frame your face / Like they played that song just to see you sway /… With what you got on, making those tan lines
- The stereotypes and objectification of women are seen when Luke sings, “with what you got on making those tan lines,” which allows the listener to infer the woman does not have a lot of clothing on and is laying on the beach. This also leads to the objectification of the woman that she is seen for her body. This also shows that women who are tan are stereotypically better looking. And more attractive when they do not have as much clothing on. This shows what it means to be female because women need to always be looking their best.
Were made for lighting this July sky up / Blanket down, made for me and you tied up / All night long, over and over / Crash into me and pull me closer… / Wish I could bottle up the taste on your lips / And girl I was made for you like
- Within these lyrics, the listener can infer that the couple in the song will get together and be intimate together repeatedly. Continuously the lyrics, “taste on your lips” show that women are supposed to smell good, and their lips are supposed to have chapstick and, or lipstick on.
