The song, Cold Beer Calling My Name by Luke Combs relates to the masculine and feminine stereotypes and counterstereotypes seen within society. These stereotypes are portrayed through his lyrics. They relate to the Sex-Role Theory because of the way society expects men and women to act.

Masculine Stereotypes/ Counterstereotypes

There’s a stretch of blacktop, I ain’t never seen a cop / So I’m pushing it a little past ten

  • Typically men will speed and go faster whereas women will follow the rules of the road and do the speed limit.

Pulled a little money from the bank, put it in the tank / Shined up the windshield glass / Don’t know where the night might lead, ain’t nowhere to be / But I gotta get there fast

  • Men stereotypically take care of their cars and spend a lot of money and time on making them nice. They also are more of a reckless driver, they push the limits on the road.

There’s a cold beer calling my name / Feeling lucky as a seven, yeah, sometimes Heaven / Is a pocket full of payday green

  • Typically guys tend to favor drinking beer over fruitier drinks. They also work super hard and are supposed to be the man of the house and have the most money.

If there’s a hillbilly rock show, I’ll be in the front row / Holding up a red Bic flame

  • Continuously with this lyric, it shows men are “hillbillies” and like going to and seeing old rock shows. Whereas females won’t go to that type of show.

Feminine Stereotypes/ Counterstereotypes

And my baby putting sugar on me / Yeah, it’s sure been a pretty damn good day

  • This lyric shows that women show more love and affection than guys and they are supposed to be more caring and gentle.
