Final Takeaways:

Come Out And Play falls short on many themes and tasks one would hope to see in a good film. With so few named characters, this movie had the opportunity to focus on meaningful character development but neglects to do so. Characters are instead reduced to a few key traits, often relying on traits entirely separate from personality such as pregnancy or understanding of a foreign language.

This film additionally emphasizes the stereotype that females are the weaker sex that relies on the guidance of the male sex. This is exemplified with Beth requiring Francis to translate everything in the film even though she is shown speaking Spanish on a few occasions. She is led by her husband throughout the entire film either emotionally or physically as well.

Come Out And Play while passing the Bechdel Test does not pass as a well-developed film when analyzed using the Sex Role perspective. In addition to the previous commentary, this film reserves particularly gruesome and painful deaths for the female leads. Both Beth and Maria die bloody with moderate scenes while Francis dies quickly from a gunshot. Because of this, Come Out And Play offers little to no meaningful substance or commentary in its plot.
