The seventh female artist I will be looking at is Beyonce Knowles. She is known for her R&B and Pop music. Her number one song on Spotify is Halo. Beyonce is known fairly well for being a feminist and she is not scared to show empowerment to her female fans in her more recent music. However, her earlier music is more focused on the topics of men and love. There are two stereotypes that can be seen in the music video, but there are no counter stereotypes.

Stereotypes

The music video for Beyonce’s song Halo shows her thinking of a man the entire video. She is seen falling in love and letting her guard down as she is treated with respect and kindness by the man in the video. This man can be seen admiring her and watching her dance, which goes along with the gender stereotype that women are for the entertainment of men. While she is dancing and singing, the man is seen standing in the background intently watching her.

Another gender stereotype is also seen when Beyonce is dancing. The camera focuses more and zooms in on her body as she does the movements, rather than focuses on her as a whole. Her upper body is seen without her head or face showing, and her hips are zoomed in on as she is practicing her sultry walk forward. This goes along with the gender stereotype that women are objects rather than people. The objectification of Beyonce also goes along with the stereotype that women’s bodies are for the pleasure of others.
