Song: “Havana” (click here for lyrics)

Artist: Camila Cabello

Overall Message:

〉Even though there is not too much to infer from, this song is about Camila Cabello falling in love with a boy in Havana, which is where she was born.

Analyzing the Lyrics:

Stereotypical Feminine Traits

  • Submissive: “He took me back to East Atlanta”
    • By saying he is the one that took her back suggests that she is the submissive one and he is the dominant one in the relationship. Whenever we hear of a guy doing something to a girl, we tend to think that he has more control.
  • Crazy: “I knew him forever in a minute”
    • A lot of people think that girls are crazy for the reasoning behind this kind of phrase. Girls that meet a guy for the first time and immediately fall in love and feel like they have known him their whole lives, are looked at as crazy. This is because they “catch feelings” and become attached too quickly.

Counterstereotypical Feminine Traits

  • As mentioned previously, there was not too much to infer from but with the lyrics I could analyze, it leaned more toward the stereotypical female love song category.
