First date with Kevin Heart Hyunda 2013

In this commercial, Kevin Hart is the father of the teenage girl that’s presented. The girl is going on a date with this guy who at first appears all confident and slightly cocky. The father tells them to use his car while they go on their date. The car had a tracker and so the dad was able to fallow his daughter and her date to all the events that they went to stop them for having too much of a good time. At the end of the commercial the young man drove the father’s car back home to the father and left suddenly leaving the girl upset and the father all concerned when in reality this was his plan all along. I personally could never imagine a parent doing something like this but it’s pretty interesting how big tracking devices were back in 2013 especially when it came to cars like the Hyunda this advertisement was a short advertisement, so to pick out different examples of gender roles presented is very tricky. Kevin Hart is known for his humor towards his height and slight feminine qualities or gender roles that go against his own sex. Him alone in this commercial immediately present that fact. With that being said however, the other actors presented in this advertisement included some gender roles specific characteristics. The fact that Kevin Hart gave the male date his keys to his own car to drive instead of her implies that the man is supposed to drive. When they were at the carnival, she wanted him to win her a stuffed animal where she could easily have one stuffed animal for herself, is another example of how men and women’s roles are portrayed especially on dates. In the last scene where they were in the car about to kiss it was implied that it was his job to make that first move because of the end result of her not being happy about the date. One could even say that all of the big gestures that the father did to control the date would also be an example of male power and control over the younger female who is his daughter. It’s a bit of a stretch but with all the other examples it could be valid.
