In this preview of Furious 7 out of the Fast and Furious collection started off with a wonderful family and the narrator discussing the importance of family and how wonderful it can make a person’s life. That is until all chaos broke loose where the father of the family was being attacked and the whole house ended up in flames. The lead in this trailer seems to then separate himself from the family and formed a group of mostly male strong people to help him fight off whoever tried to attack him and his family. The entire preview then was filled with action events that don’t connect such as explosions, racing cars, fighting helicopters, and fistfights. It ends with the lead character driving his car into the building next to his and then jumping out before the car falls off the second building. As we can assume this is a completely male-dominated preview. The preview practically eliminated all female roles showing small pieces of the film with a female but no actual textual female roles.
This can be a great example of symbolic annihilation because they started with a mix of male and female characters and then eliminated them from the rest of the movie showing that this movie is more for men. There were little context clues to even understand what the story is about; there was just action and explosion with very small text. I could see people like my brother and his friends liking this ad because they have seen Fast and Furious before and know the genre but based on the genre alone there’s not much to write about this preview.
