The twelfth female artist I will be looking at is Halsey. She is known for her Electropop and Synthpop music. Her number one song on Spotify is Without Me. Halsey is known for being a feminist and she has called out the male-dominated music industry many times in the past. Her music is aimed to inspire her listeners and she is not afraid to speak her mind to critics.
Stereotypes
In the music video for her song Without Me, Halsey can be seen taking care of her male significant other. He is seen getting drunk, acting out of control, and becoming injured. This violent nature of his actions is typically stereotyped towards men. They are seen to be the dominant and controlling gender, whereas females are seen as more timid and gentle.
In these scenes, Halsey is seen taking on the role of being the caregiver, which is seen as a female stereotype. Females are stereotyped to be the ones to take care of those around them such as spouses and especially children. It is assumed that they will be the ones to become the “stay at home” parent who is in charge of all family life aspects.
In another scene Halsey can be seen standing underneath a shower head while wearing revealing all white clothing. Her body is zoomed in on by the cameras as the water is poured onto her. This goes with the stereotype that it is okay for women to be objectified and used for the pleasure of others.
