The eleventh female artist I will be looking at is Billie Eilish. She is known for her Art Pop and Dark Pop music. Her number one song on Spotify is Bad Guy. Billie Eilish’s music and her overall music career is big on showing teens and especially females that they have a voice in this world. Her music and music videos express that females are capable of having power, not just males. Some viewers even describe Billie Eilish as the antihero.

Counter Stereotypes

In the music video for Bad Guy, Billie Eilish can be seen at the center of the screen and always in front. Men are seen as being used as props and objects in the background as Billie moves around. This is opposite of what is normally seen where females are used as props or objects. This also shows the power that women can have over men, as Billie can be seen sitting on top of a man while he is doing pushups.

Billie can also be seen wearing baggy clothing rather than tighter, revealing clothing. Almost all of the music videos I have viewed so far have the women wearing revealing clothing. The music video for Bad Guy, does the opposite. The only people that do show skin by wearing less clothing are the males in the video. This portrayal of wearing baggy clothing, along with the scenes where Billie has blood dripping down her face, is normally stereotyped as the male portrayal. Men would be stereotyped to wear these clothes and have blood on them, rather than a woman.
