We are back to another Iron Man film! And the hopes we had for Pepper’s character to be empowered have gone away!
Licensed Withdrawal
- No one on the camera is looking directly at the camera, the men are looking subtly beyond the camera at some impending danger.
- Pepper is the only character looking the opposite direction of the males. The viewer gets to look upon her and acknowledge her fear, as she is unaware of the viewers.
Ritualization of Subordination/Feminine Touch
- Pepper is pictured grabbing onto Tony’s chest, depicting subordination to him and a need to be protected. Her presence as the only woman on the poster is characterized as the “damsel in distress” who needs the surrounding men to protect her from danger.
Function Ranking
- All of the men on the poster are dressed in military/fighting clothes, while Pepper is depicted in a simple white shirt. She does not have an important role, she is merely a background character with no position of superiority to the males on the poster.
