I will be analyzing how stereotypes are seen or not seen in female artists’ music videos by using the Sex Role Perspective The first female artist I will be looking at is Lady Gaga. She is known for her Pop and Dance style music. Her number song on Spotify is Shallow, which also features Bradley Cooper.

In the beginning of the music video, Bradley Cooper is seen as the main character and singer, while Lady Gaga is seen standing off stage. Once she does make it on stage to sing, Lady Gaga is very timid and shy. As the video progresses, Lady Gaga’s career starts to grow and take off with the help of Bradley Cooper. He is also seen caressing her face and body, showing that he will take care of her.

These actions follow and reinforce the stereotype that men are seen as the dominate and women are seen as the subordinate. Bradley Cooper is the one who will care and provide for Lady Gaga. He is also seen reinforcing this stereotype by helping to start her music career and by constantly admiring her throughout the music video. He has the main, dominate control, and she is the follower, doing what he tells her to do.
