The next Justin Bieber song I will be analyzing is “Sorry”. This song was released in 2015 and hit number one on the Hot 100 Billboard charts. The song describes how a man has made many mistakes in a past relationship with a woman but is begging to get another chance with said woman. The theory I will be using is the Sex-role perspective which is defined as a perspective of how females must act through the eyes of males.
The first example of sex roles in the song “Sorry” is found in the chorus of the song. The lyrics state “I’m not just trying to get you back on me Cause I’m missing more than just your body” Bieber is clearly stating that he misses the feminine touch from the woman he is speaking of. He is showing that a woman’s body is meant to be seen and touched even though he may not deserve it due to his mistakes.
The second example of sex roles in the song “Sorry” is found in the second verse of the song. “I’ll take every single piece of the blame if you want me to. But you know that there is no innocent one in this game for two” Bieber is showing that women can be gullible enough to take some of the blame for all the mistakes the man has made. Even though the failure of the relationship was caused by the man, Bieber is hoping for the woman to be gullible and take the blame off of him.
The third and final example of sex roles in the song “Sorry” is found in the first verse. The lyric is “Cause I just need one more shot at forgiveness” showing the sex trait of how women are eager to soothe hurt feelings. Bieber is showing that women want to forgive any hurt feelings so a simple sorry will be good enough to be forgiven.
