For this entry I am analyzing the “Live While We’re Young” music video by One Direction. This video features the five boys camping. There are also a lot of background people present throughout the video.
Masculine Stereotypes: Throughout the video the boys are seen doing several outdoorsy things. Some of these things are camping, rope swinging into the lake, pushing Liam into the lake, having those life sized hamsters balls in the water. They are also driving a Land Rover very fast through a dirt path in a field. The boys are also seen playing soccer. While none of the tasks are specifically gendered tasks being outdoorsy and athletic is typically aligned with masculine stereotypes. The boys are also often singing directly to the camera and at times pointing to it. This is something that would not be typically seen from there female counter parts (from them you would expect licensed withdrawal to some extent). The boys also are pushing each other throughout the video, this follows the masculine aggressive stereotype even though they were just playing around not meaning to cause anyone pain.
Feminine Stereotypes: Throughout most of the video the background people shown are young conventionally attractive women. These women are shown wearing shorter shorts. Never throughout the video did these women play any role of consequence, they were entirely background people.
Gaze Theory: There were no aspects of gaze theory in this music video.
