My 17th portfolio post will be analyzing the song “Right Now” by the boyband One Direction. This song shows a man expressing his emotions, which is stereotypically a feminine characteristic. Men are stereotyped to be strong, individualistic, and independent. However, this song portrays the man wishing that the girl was with him and how he needs her there. He expresses a soft, emotional, and sensitive side. This song rejects stereotypical masculine characteristics. These lyrics listed below are some of the evidence that supports this.
- Right now, I wish you were here with me
- You know I can’t fight the feeling, And every night I feel it
- And I could do this forever
Overall, this song shows a man presenting characteristics that are stereotypically feminine traits.
